The Anglican Way of Planting
Anglican church planting is both missional and ordered. It follows a clear progression:
- Extension Work – a small gathering (under 12 adults) beginning as a Bible study or home fellowship under diocesan oversight.
- Mission Parish – a group of 12–39 communicant members committed to worship, stewardship, and growth.
- Parish – a fully self-governing congregation with its own vestry and stable membership.
Each phase is guided by the diocesan bishop and a Canon Missioner to ensure doctrinal faithfulness and pastoral care.

Why plant new Anglican parishes?
Because the Church’s life is missional by nature. The Anglican tradition has always been a missionary movement—from the Gospel Oaks of Celtic England to the parishes now springing up across North America.
What is REC100?
REC100 is the Reformed Episcopal Church’s vision to plant 100 new parishes by recovering the missionary DNA of Anglicanism—traditional, biblical, and prayer book-based communities that proclaim the Gospel and make disciples.
Who can start a new Anglican work?
Any lay or ordained person sensing a call should first contact their Diocesan Canon Missioner for discernment and guidance. A pre-screen interview, spiritual evaluation, and missional plan follow before any work is formally launched.
What’s the first step to start a mission?
Begin gathering people around prayer and the Word—often through home studies or small groups.
What support is available?
The REC100 program provides mentorship, training, and financial grants to help mission parishes begin public worship and community outreach.
Do all missions become full parishes?
That’s the goal! Once membership grows to 30–40 adults, the group can apply for full parish status.
Can I give to support a new mission?
Yes. Each mission parish commits to biblical tithing, and grants are overseen jointly by the Diocese and REC100 to ensure accountability and good stewardship.
